'It's Show Time!'
Before we know it the summer is nearly over and it is 'Show Season'. Namely both the Winslow Show and the Bucks Show.
Bucks Show
This year the Bucks Show was held before the Winslow Show. You may have seen 'Lions' on patrol at the visitor entrance gates and parking cars at the Members Gate. This is a significant fundraiser for us but does require a considerable army of volunteers to make it happen. As ever, we thank Lions, Friends of Lions and other volunteers for allowing us to undertake these duties on behalf of the Bucks Show organisers. The upside of volunteering is you get to enjoy the Show and get a great packed lunch courtesy of the Winslow Deli!!
Winslow Show
August Bank Holiday brings the Winslow Show. The Lions have been a major component of this show over the years together with many other local organisations. Not only does the Show allow us, but also other charity and volunteer organisations to raise monies and publicise themselves to the town folk of Winslow (and beyond).
The Lions were involved with the 'Splat the Rat' with help from the Scouts and 'Plate Smashing' together with volunteers from 'Winslow Wheelers'. But by far the largest commitment was running the 'Beer Tent' (with assistance from Shoulder of Mutton) and running the classic vehicle display - 'Wheels in Winslow'.
This year's display had 65 cars and was enjoyed by many that came to the Show.
Class Winners
- The Model T Ford won 'Oldest Car', Austin Healy Sprite won 'Best car in show', nearly got it last year and the Morgan +8 won the 'Post 1985' prize.
Thanks to our sponsors - KGB Car Repair & Restorations, Allon White Sports Cars, Chapman Autos.
Visit by Buckinghamshire Mind
We had a very interesting talk from Anna Driver of Buckinghamshire Mind to explain the services that they offer to individuals with mental health worries in our area.
Sadly, there is a growing demand on their services and they are seeking funding and volunteers.
'Read all about it!'When you are in the Winslow Library reading up on all the latest news from the newspaper have you ever wondered who pays for it? Well here's the 'scoop'... it is the Lions Club of Winslow. For many years the Club has paid for the subscription to allow the library to provide this service to all its attendees. We can guarantee to bring you the news but cannot always say its' 'good news'. |
