'Carols & Lanterns' in the Square
Hopefully you are already aware that the ‘Lions’ Club organise the popular ‘Carols in the Square’ event and this year it will be held on the 19th December at 7:00pm in the Market Square as usual.
As a way of increasing the involvement of families, we are adding another element in the form of ‘Lanterns’ so that it will become ‘Carols and Lanterns in the Square’.
The idea has arisen due to the fabulous spectacle that Stony Stratford has made of a parade of ‘lanterns’ at the start of their Christmas Lights season (see picture below). I hasten to add, we are not planning a parade but simply suggest that individuals attend the usual ‘Carols in the Square’ event bearing ‘lanterns’ to really brighten up the Square and the Event.
The lanterns can be simple or elaborate as the makers decide and I suggest you visit the Stony Stratford website for inspiration. http://york-house.org.uk/lantern-project-2016/
We have teamed up with our friends at the 'Men in Sheds Winslow' who are planning on opening the doors of their facilities at Unit 4 Station Road Ind. Estate, Station Road (opposite Chapman Autos) on Saturday 2nd and 9th December to supply materials and assistance with construction (for a small donation to their funds for material costs). In fact you can buy a 'Kit' to make a basic lantern including light and pole.
Visit 'Men in Sheds Winslow' Website for more details
Their doors will be open between 10:00 and 13:00 (all children are to be accompanied by adults, please).
For safety, please ensure that only battery powered lights (LED’s) are used in the Lanterns.
We look forward to seeing you on the 19th December for an ‘illuminating experience’, if not before!
